Just Enough Faith foundation has opened a commercial kitchen and
education centre in Callan Park.
Jeff Gambin and his wife Alina started Just Enough Faith 10 years
ago as a "non-religious, non-political and totally non-funded"
organisation to help the less fortunate.
Every night for the past decade, the organisation has fed hundreds
of people from a van in the heart of Sydney.
It has also provided housing, education, clothing, counselling
and work assistance to those in need.
The state government has given Just Enough Faith a 10-year lease
on the property.
Jeff estimates he will need to spend at least $500,000 fixing the
place.
A commercial kitchen, where chefs prepare more than 300 kilos of
food a day, and a learning centre with 16 computers have been installed
in the education centre.
Jeff has paid for most of the refurbishment out of his own pocket:
"This is my retirement. These are our savings," he said.
"We have managed to take more than a thousand people off the
streets, put more than a hundred people back in school, and to reunite
families from all over the globe. That is what makes it worthwhile."
The centre will begin offering fully accredited courses in computers,
hospitality, horticulture and travel this month.
"If we can get one person back into mainstream society working,
it will be worth it," Jeff said.
Jeff hopes more people from the community will lend a hand at the
centre.
"It makes light work of a big job."
